Big Red

96” x 60” | Oil and acrylic on canvas

As an introvert, I have often self-identified as a loner, but even loners need community. In this work, I demonstrate my desire to change this identity of a “loner” by first displaying the word loner all over the work, and then erasing those words by painting over them with a vibrant and colourful expression.

Loneliness is pervasive in our culture. During COVID years, it became clear that even though I loved solitude, I still needed the support of a community. It hasn’t always been easy to build community, but I wake up every day grateful for everyone who has supported me relentlessly through this life, and I continue to find people and spaces where I am loved and cherished and people who I love and cherish in return.
